The result of the game, a 38-20 win over 1-AA Weber State, was almost incidental in light of what happened at Boston College on Saturday.

Mark Herzlich was back on the football field.

"I felt good," Herzlich said after playing his first game following a battle with bone cancer that cost him last season. "I overran some plays. That was to be expected; not to say I'm going to settle for that."

BC LB Herzlich takes field after cancer recovery (AP)
Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich has returned to the field for Saturday's season-opener against Weber State after missing the entire 2009 season while recovering from cancer. Herzlich, the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference defensive player of the year, missed last year as he underwent treatment for a rare form of cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma.
