Post-cancer, foot injury, Herzlich back for BC (AP)
Cancer kept Mark Herzlich out for all of last season, and a stress fracture in his foot this summer threatened to delay the Boston College linebacker's return to the field. But Herzlich returned to practice this week and said on Wednesday he expects to play in Saturday's opener against Weber State.

Frank Spaziani was able to name a starting quarterback for the Boston College opener against I-AA Weber State, but the Eagles coach saw his team break camp with other questions that had to be answered.

Like:

Who was going to lead a depleted wide receiver corps that lost Rich Gunnell to graduation and top returnee Colin Larmond Jr. to a season-ending knee injury.

Would linebacker Mark Herzlich be immediately ready to play as he starts his game comeback from last year's battle with cancer? The 2009 ACC defensive player of the year was back on the practice field in time to play in the opener, but nothing was definite.

Would there be enough experienced bodies to play on the defensive line as the Eagles battled through fall practice with tackle Damik Scafe out...

Shinskie chosen as starting QB for Boston College (AP)
Baseball player turned quarterback Dave Shinskie has been chosen as the starter for Boston College. Coach Frank Spaziani chose the sophomore for the season opener Sept. 4 at home against Weber State. BC receiver Larmond out for year with knee injury (AP)
Boston College wide receiver Colin Larmond Jr. will miss the season with a knee injury. The junior was the team's leading returning receiver. He hurt his knee Saturday, and the school said Monday it will require surgery. Larmond had 29 catches for 596 yards and five touchdowns last season. He was second on the team to the since-departed Rich Gunnell in all categories.
